Sarah Pledge Dickson (she/her)
is a Canadian freelance journalist, writer and Ph.D. candidate.
Sarah first became interested in journalism during her undergraduate degree
where she majored in Global and International Studies. Her undergraduate thesis
focused on the use of fiction in contemporary Indigenous literatures to tell
migration narratives. She saw journalism as a way to mesh these two pursuits: storytelling and human rights.
Her first taste of journalism came when her personal essay was published in the Globe and Mail First Person column. Since completing her master’s degree in journalism from Carleton University, Sarah has worked for the Sherbrooke Record, Brome County News and Ultiworld. Her writing has also been featured in Capital Current, an Ottawa-based publication, and the Ottawa Citizen.
Her journalistic interests include culture, politics, social issues and historical stories.
Sarah is now in the process of completing her PhD in Communications and Media Studies from the University of Ottawa. Her research interests include the Canadian media landscape, Canadian journalism and Canadian right-wing media.
Sarah identifies as a queer cisgender woman.
Sarah presently lives in Ottawa, on unceded Algonquin territories.
